I found this article on Brain Pickings really interesting. I love reading about how other writers do their work, and it is especially cool when you get a look into the lives of famous writers that we all know and love.
The quote from Susan Sontag is great because so many of her rules apply to writers today in one way or another. For instance, she says this:
I will try to confine my reading to the evening. (I read too much — as an escape from writing.)
I will answer letters once a week. (Friday? — I have to go to the hospital anyway.)
Substitute “email” for “letters” and “day” for “week” and you’ve got a simple rule to follow that could save a lot of us so much time that would better be dedicated to writing or other creative endeavors.
